Inspired by how crystal clear and less polluted our oceans became as a result of the global Covid Lockdown of 2020. As a keen beach goer and outdoor swimmer, I yearned to get my body back in the water - to taste and feel the cooling elixir. Despite the virus causing havoc and tragedy around the world, I felt this was one great positive to come out of it - clean, clearer seas.

Texture and colour inspired by the natural world. These pieces were created by adding layer upon layer of acrylic paint. Letting it dry then scraping it back - landscapes would appear! More paint was added and  often I would even let the summer rain wash it away again. It was a process that drew me in readily and relaxed me in a way I hadn't imagined it would. I love how hidden worlds beneath were revealed as I played with creation.

As for many, the beach is an emotional escape for me. It's where I go when I'm happy as well as when I'm sad. I have no interest in painting a real life representation of how it looks and only wish to translate how it makes me FEEL. I am mesmerised by the undulating waves, delight at the crunch beneath my feet and cherish the whisper of freedom afloat the salty air. ​
